So this past weekend one of my roommates got married in Naperville, IL. The wedding was amazing to watch and I was in tears as I saw the relationship that Katy and Josh have with God. A wedding three weeks after graduation was a great opportunity for most of my roommates from college to get back together. I miss them all so much when we are apart and they are all gifts from God. So on Sunday when me and two of my friends were driving back to Evanston we thought it might be great to drive to Holland instead (where we went to college). When we got to Holland we were able to hang out with two of our other roommates who had already driven back the night before.
So after an amazing Memorial Day weekend of weddings and beach days I had to take the train back home through Chicago to Evanston. But I did not have a book. Now if you know me I love to read and I needed a book! Especially when I was going to spend hours on the train. So my friend Breah and I drove to good ol Meijer. As we looked around Breah picked up a book titled A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Child Soldier.
Reading this book really opened my eyes and made me realize that every moment is given to us by God; and we are not supposed to take advantage of that. This boy grew up in Sierra Leone where a terrible war was going on and he was forced to fight. The book is about his story and the terror that occurred in his life before the age of 16! Everyday I want to wake up and ask God to show me what he has in store for me. I can’t wait until I get to South Africa to make an impact in peoples lives. Today is a day that was given to me by God.
